Taranaki Cathedral is a place of hospitality for groups small and large, offering a variety of rooms and spaces for hire. Our historic site is centrally located in New Plymouth, with wheelchair accessibility and designated parking. You can find details and photos about what each space has to offer below. Please carefully read through the information about the space you’d like to hire before completing the enquiry form.


TE WHARE HONONGA

  • Located at 37 Vivian Street, New Plymouth at the base of Pūkākā, between Taranaki Cathedral's stone church and the renovated Vicarage.

  • Te Whare Hononga, meaning The House That Binds, is an exhibition space open for visits free of charge Monday-Friday 9am-3pm. Te Whare Hononga can also be hired as a venue, making it unavailable to the public during that time of the booking.

    We only take bookings for Te Whare Hononga that are aligned to its purpose of education & reconciliation and for kaupapa Māori events. Te Whare Hononga is an expression of partnership between Ngāti Te Whiti and St. Mary’s.

    All bookings are subject to cancellation if the space is needed for a special Iwi event. In the rare event that a booking is canceled, every effort will be made to find an alternative venue at Taranaki Cathedral.

  • HOURLY RATE: $200 + GST

    HALF DAY (up to 4 hours): $600 + GST

    FULL DAY: $1000 + GST

    $200 deposit is required to secure your booking.

  • To hire Te Whare Hononga for a private hui please fill out the ENQUIRY FORM. Please note, there is no charge for groups who are wanting to visit Te Whare Hononga along with the general public to view the exhibition.

KĀHU CONFERENCE ROOM

  • The Kāhu room located within Te Manu Hononga, The Sir Paul Reeves Centre - on the first floor of the renovated vicarage. 37 Vivian Street, New Plymouth.

    Accommodates up to 25 people, depending on how you choose to set up the room.

    The shared use of the downstairs Wharekai (dining room) is included with the booking. We ask all guests to use the Wharekai for breaks and meals. Please do not eat meals in the Kahu Room.

  • We charge two rates depending on the size of the group because of the impact of larger groups on our shared spaces.

    LARGE GROUPS 25 people

    • HALF DAY (up to 4 hours)
      $300 + GST

      $400 + GST

KŌTUKU BOARD ROOM

  • The Kōtuku room is located within Te Manu Hononga, The Sir Paul Reeves Centre - on the first floor of the renovated Vicarage. 37 Vivian Street, New Plymouth.

  • Accommodates up to 12 people comfortably.

    The Kōtuku Room is used as a shared office space during the week, so is generally only available for hire on weekdays after 5pm or on weekends.

    Amenities include:
    - large table with chairs
    - whiteboard
    - WiFi
    - a TV may be available on request
    - Accessible toilets
    - Elevator
    - Shared kitchenette for self-catered hot drinks is located right next to the Kōtuku room. (Please do not use this area for meal prep)

    The shared use of the downstairs Wharekai dining area is included with the booking. We ask all guests to use the Wharekai for breaks and meals. Please do not eat meals in the Kōtuku Room.

WHAREKAI - DINING AREA & KITCHEN

  • The Wharekai (Dining Area) is the ground floor of the renovated Vicarage. 37 Vivian Street, New Plymouth.

    The Wharekai is a shared space for all guests on site and its use is included with bookings of Te Whare Hononga, Kāhu & Kōtuku. It is for that reason that we very rarely hire out this space separately, however we do make exceptions from time to time, but usually only on weekends.

    Accommodates up to 120 (standing / casual dining), 60 (buffet dining), or 90 (seated/served dining).

    Amenties Include:

    - Wifi
    - Whiteboard, TV with HDMI cable available on request
    - Onsite parking
    - Wheelchair accessibility

    Commercial Kitchen with:
    - food prep area
    - large fridge
    - gas stovetop
    - oven
    - instant hot water

    - Dishes, serveware & white cotton tablecloths are available on request.

  • HALF DAY: $600 +GST  (available 5-10pm only)

    FULL DAY: $1000 +GST (only available Saturday & Sundays for full day bookings)

PEACE HALL

  • Located at 44 Vivian Street, New Plymouth - across the street from the main Taranaki Cathedral site.

  • If you're looking for a hint of ‘old town hall’ nostalgia, The Peace Hall is the place for you! Perfect for event concerts, rustic weddings, and anything in-between.

    - Street parking plus reserved parking for 20.
    - Tables are available on request.

    If you wish to use the small kitchen for more than small prep we advise viewing first as kitchenware is limited.

  • FULL DAY: $500 + GST

    PLUS: Set-up and pack-down fees are set based on the need.

    $200 deposit is required to secure this booking.

PEACE LOUNGE

  • Located at 44 Vivian Street, New Plymouth - next to the Op-Shop, across the street from the main Taranaki Cathedral site.

    Suitable for small gatherings. Friendly space with lots of natural light.

    - Accessible Toilets (located in the hall next door)
    - Street parking plus reserved parking for 20.
    - Tables are available on request.
    - Kitchen.

    If you wish to use the small kitchen for more than small prep we advise viewing first as kitchenware is limited.
