St Mary’s Peace Memorial Hall

St Mary's Peace MemorialHall sits across the road from Taranaki Cathedral at 44 Vivian Street. The hall was built as a monument of peace and to commemorate the end of World War 1. The hall was officially opened by Bishop Averill on 7 November 1924, followed by celebrations and dancing.

The date chosen for the hall’s opening, 7th of November, is a significant date in Taranaki to remember the prophets of Parihaka and their dedication to peace and non-violent resistance. While there many War Memorial Halls scattered around the country, St Mary’s Hall is one of only three halls dedicated to Peace (the other two are in the South Island).

The Peace Hall is available for hire. If you're looking for a hint of ‘old town hall’ nostalgia, the Peace Hall is the place for you! Perfect for event concerts, rustic weddings, and anything in-between. For venue hire information go here
