Garden of Remembrance

The garden was designed and carved by Moewai Aterea (Taranaki / Ngāti Maniapoto)
Dedicated to the Glory of God in 2013

The paths in the garden are the fins and backbone of the Patiki, an outline of a fish, the ancient symbol of Christianity.

The Koru reminds us of our resurrection hope

The Raukura is a prophetic symbol of peace, a plume of three white feathers, an identity marker for Parihaka and all of Taranaki. The feathers of the  Raukura are depicted here with three stone carvings.

You are invited to sit and reflect on these images and with us pray...

He hōnore, he korōria ki te Atua. He maungārongo ki te whenua. He whakaaro pai ki ngā tāngata katoa
Hangā e te Atua he ngākau hou ki roto, ki tēnā, ki tēnā o mātou
Whakatōngia to wairua tapu, hei awhina, hei tohutohu i a mātou
Hei ako hoki i ngā mahi mō tēnei rā
Amine

Honour and glory to God. Peace on Earth. Goodwill to all people
Lord, develop a new heart inside all of us
Instil in us your sacred spirit, help us, guide us
In all the things we need to learn today
Amen

The small, engraved rocks were placed here by those who helped fund the creation of this garden and remind us that we are a church of living stones (1 Peter 2:5).
